May 10, 1637 -- Edward Fitz Randolph and Elizabeth Blossom married at Scituate, Plymouth Colony. [4]

January 2, 1651/52 -- John was born at Barnstable, Plymouth Colony, and died soon thereafter as an infant. [6] [7] It was common practice at the time to use necronyms, and so the next son born to Edward and Elizabeth 7 Oct 1653 was also named John. [6]

Surname note

This surname had many different spellings, including Fitzrandle, Fittsrendolfe, or Fittsrandolfe[8], with FitzRandolph or Fitz Randolph emerging as the most common. Fitz Randolph is being recommended as the standard, recognizing, that in later years, Fitz was sometimes used as a middle name for sons and optional for daughters. In this Fitz Randolph family, Fitz appears to have been used by all family members as part of their surname. Records of the time use different variants, including 'Fitts Randle'. The current consensus for now is to use the surname Fitz Randolph.
